Dear Clients,
Below is the summary and here is the newsletter (link) in detail: SHE legal update newsletter – what happened in September 2026: Making Waves, Fighting Fires and Ruffling Feathers!
Spring has sprung in South Africa, and while the flowers are blooming, our lawmakers have been equally busy producing a fresh crop of regulations!
September was particularly eventful on the water. From sewage and oil pollution at sea to maritime safety and crew accommodation, the message is clear: keep our oceans clean, our sailors safe and their sleeping quarters firmly out of the 1960s!
On dry land, water management, veldfire prevention and biodiversity protection received plenty of attention. Pharmacies faced another healthy dose of regulatory updates, organ transplantation came under the spotlight, and even poultry wasn’t allowed to chicken out of new proposed rules.
Meanwhile, municipalities across the country enthusiastically amended by-laws covering everything from public parks and roads to waste management and public behaviour. Cape Town even managed to introduce planning amendments in two instalments – because apparently one commencement date would be far too straightforward!
Consumer protection, railway safety fees and workplace health standards also made the headlines. Labour legislation, however, enjoyed a rare month of peace and quiet.
So, before the summer heat arrives and the year-end madness begins, grab a coffee and enjoy September’s regulatory harvest. As always, there’s plenty to digest – and thankfully, no permit required for reading!
Stay safe and enjoy the spring sunshine!
